Scenes of Crime to Scenes of Love. Serving police officer with a passion for art and a newly found passion for photography, Ozzie Hamil from Ossett, gave an interesting insight into his introduction to photography, and his background training applied to the wedding scene. Adapting different styles his leanings are toward semi informal while recognising that the most important need is to ensure that the bride and groom enjoy their day and later the finished presentation. Three audiovisual presentations were projected, showing examples of his varied approach and between these describing his philosophy to publicity and selling techniques. Ozzie is a recent newcomer to our ranks and several of his audience were able to relate to much of what he said and showed, being at the early part of their career, compared with the longer experienced and polished presentations we are accustomed to seeing.

Regional Meetings Return To The Owl How many went to Chestnuts for the monthly meeting? Closure of the restaurant required us to find a new venue for meetings and we were back at The Owl, Hambleton on the A63 between Selby and Monk Fryston for the AGM and evening of wedding photography. Both were well attended and Stuart Clark reviewed the years activities, some of the highlights being the whole day seminar at Halifax, the annual print competition and the recent whole day event at the Harrogate studio. All the meetings were well attended and the Regions esteem within the Institute head been upheld by the input nationally by members editorial coverage in The Photographer, also the official work of members. Much of this success is due to the tireless input during his term of office by Rob Cook, the retiring Chairman and members expressed their appreciation, also for Mark Broadwith a relative newcomer for his efforts during the year together with that of all the committee. Several newcomers and would be members have been welcomed, guided and encouraged by both Fellow and Associate members, and it is particularly pleasing that there is an increasing membership among the fairer sex. The treasurer Chris was unable to attend but he sent a message of a healthy balance sheet. No new nominations were received and the new committee will comprise Chairman Richard Walker. Immediate Past Chairman. Rob Cooke. Hon; Sec; Stuart Clark. Hon Treas; Chris Hall Committee Paul Cooper. Brian Harte. Steve Howdle. Alan Stone. The position of regional representative to the Members Services Advisory Board is open following the resignation of Rob Cooke and in the absence of any other nomination Mike Pounder ABIPP ARPS AIS was elected to serve until October when all the positions open for election. We welcome Mike to the region, now residing in Grimsby, and recently moved from the South where he has a member of Central Region. Being accustomed to it’s compact catchment area, he has been a little taken aback by Yorkshires broad acres. Mike will further the interests of your and the Regions interests, and if you have any problems or worries he is at 9785 983 2149 or mikespix@supanet.com Although A.O.B is not normally used in AGM’s including it on the agenda enabled some members to question Director, Alan Stone, on the current state of the Institute and adverse comments which had been expressed during an earlier meeting. Not only did he discuss the points raised by later discussed personally their concerns. The meeting closed at 8.30 pm.

The New Year got off to a good start at the Powerhouse Studio in Rodley, Leeds, when we were able to renew aquaintenceship with some not seen for some time. A long established studio on a grand scale but not in original ownership the team now comprises 9 with senior photographers Tony and Stephen Shannon both Associates of the BIPP who explained their backgrounds and showed examples of the studio's varied output. Originally equipped with coving to accomodate buses, the studio now concentrates on smaller scale sets and product photography. Bookings for the whole day portrait seminar at Harrogate are now coming in well and if you haven't reserved your place it's getting 'make your mind up time'! This is a must for anyone already in, or about to break into the portrait market which is showing signs of a change of styles and approach. Check with Chris Hall now to be sure of being there! There is a possibility that meeting at Chestnuts may have to be held elsewhere in future but you will be advised in good time. Just keep watching this space! Members will be aware of the comings and going regarding concerns for the Institute's present and future, something which still appears to be on going. Some will also be aware of Rob Cooke's frustrations and this has led to his resignation from being elected representative of the Members Services Advisor Group. Richard Walker has offered to stand in for now but this may have to go for Richard Walker as vice chairman will succeed Rob Cooke at the AGM and is planning the 2008/9 programme, wherever the meetings are held, and if you have any particular topic or subject you think would interest the meetings please let Richard have details, naming any particular speaker you would like to hear. One suggestion was avon garde wedding photography, which would persuade at least one member to come after a long absence. It's all very well soaking up glorious images and not having the vaguest idea how to produce somthing similar, so look out for demos on various techniques. Another idea being worked on is "eventing" in whatever form it takes. The word seems to cover everything from a 21st birthday party to 10 years old footballers on a Sunday morning. At least that is what was stated on the card presented by the photographer franchising for a national eventing set up when he took my grandsons pix taking a kick at a football. His Dad did buy a 7x5 in a folder! Steve Todd has information on near mint equipment for sale (haven't we all) on behalf of a Hull widow, at advantageous prices including a Nikon D1x. Anyone interested contact Steve for details. Now is the time to be looking out your images for the print competition and keeping your eye on special print offers from Leach who will once again be hosting the event. And if you are not already thinking about it, perhaps you could give some thought to the qualifications up grade evening by preparing your panel. Another instance where you could enjoy the special offers. For anyone thinking of doing this, be sure to seek opinions on the selection of images to be submitted from one or more of the Fellows in our midst are waiting to help and will be delighted to help with your choice. While this cannot guarantee success, it can help to avoid complete wastes of money.
