Networking

We meet on the third Wednesday of the month at The Owl Hotel, Hambleton on the A63 West of Selby when as many as forty members gather, many in their first year of membership, several travelling quite some distance.

Meetings are your opportunity to meet others who are entering the profession and facing similar challenges. Network with established photographers who may be able to assist you on a time for time basis. Make your own network of photographers who may refer work to you in exchange for your referrals.

It's very much down to you, the more you put in the more you will get out, and the friends you make at The Owl could become your best business asset.

Mentoring

The purpose of mentoring is to school members toward qualification, and in practise is the constructive critiquing of images that you hope will make up your qualification panel.

Objective and constructive print critiques are singularly the best was of gaining the insight you need to improve.

Mentors are Fellows of the Institute who give their time voluntarily on a good will basis, are usually fully employed in their own businesses with little free time, who nevertheless, with a little patience respect and sometimes a little persistence when approached will generously be greatly helpful.

More convenient and easily accessible mentoring is on offer at the close of regional meetings when there are usually qualified members in attendance who will happily guide you. Stuart Clark the region's secretary regularly gives critiques or will introduce you to the most appropriate member.

Qualifications

Affiliate members and unqualified photographers are not permitted to us the BIPP logo or claim accreditation of the BIPP for business purposes, therefore becoming qualified should be your priority.

The value of BIPP qualifications is their industry standard. recognised internationally and worthy of the effort

Print Competition

Surprisingly this is often won by newcomers.

It only takes a great shot to run away with the trophy or merit award. The real value of the competition to members is the publicity which such a win can enjoy, often boosting your business and putting it on the map.

Entry costs are negligible, so be on the look out for your winning shot, and enter. Your name could be added to the trophy.

The committee

Comprising members who volunteer to serve and manage the regions activities in the interest of members, the committee is elected annually at the AGM.

It organises the diary of social events and seminars while running the web site and paying the bills. A small cash float is maintained by the door fee and occasional surplus from a seminar, which after expenses are reinvested in staging more events beneficial to the membership.
